“We sort of see it as the mother of all AI projects,” Cook.

After years worth of rumors, Apple has finally come out in the open with its car project. In a TV interview with Bloomberg, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook confirmed that the company is indeed working on an autonomous car system. The company’s focus currently remains on self-driving technology for cars.

Previously Apple was rumored to be working on an expensive project about a self-driving car. An Apple Car would have been an ultimate moonshot moment for the company. But Tim Cook has cleared the air for now

In the interview, Cook admitted that it’s a very difficult AI based project to work on. Apple isn’t alone in the autonomous car system development. Google has been openly testing self-driving car technologies on vehicles made by various car manufacturers. The company also has a running deal with several auto giants.

Apple’s self-driving car technology project was labeled Project Titan internally. The company reportedly employed over 1,000 engineers for the project which was cut down last year. It was assumed that Apple decided to shift focus to the core technology instead of building its own full-fledged car.

Tim Cook hasn’t confirmed or denied the company’s plans to eventually build an Apple Car in the future. Cook said the company would determine what direction the project takes once things eventually take off. ┬áThere’s still a lot of room to cover apparently.
