Amazon keeps coming up with newer ways to make our online shopping experiences completely friction-free. The e-commerce giant today announced a new device which integrates its virtual assistant Alexa and costs just $20. This is currently the cheapest device with Alexa baked in.
The new Amazon Dash Wand now comes with Alexa. It can be used to order food, ask for recipes, and even control smart home appliances using voice commands. The device will be exclusive to Prime members and works with AmazonFresh, the company’s online grocery service.
It’s the smallest, cutest, and the cheapest Alexa device out there. The device is virtually free because Amazon customers will still get a $20 Amazon credit when the device is registered. This is like practically planting Alexa (and of course Amazon) inside every home.
Amazon Dash Wand with Alexa will come with a free 90-days subscription to AmazonFresh. The device is water-resistant and promises a durable design. It also includes a bar code scanner to enable customers to scan products easily around the house. It can be used to place orders for home essentials or reorder past purchases. Dash Wand with Alexa can also work with smart home appliances.
Previously, Amazon had launched a Dash Wand without Alexa which will be discontinued from now on. Dash Wand with Alexa now joins Alexa’s line up of super affordable devices like the Echo Dot and the Echo Tap.
With Alexa, Amazon now has a lead in the voice-powered speakers market in the US. Other companies like Google and Apple are trying to place their own products in consumers’ homes while promising an array of additional feature sets and unique selling points. So far nothing beats Amazon’s offerings which are likely to have a 71% market share in the US this year, according to a recent report by eMarketer.
