The global wireless speaker market is currently led by Amazon’s Alexa-powered Echo speakers. Apple will be entering the market this December with its HomePod branded wireless speakers. Apple not only needs to set the right price tag on the HomePod speakers but it also needs to impress its target audience.

There’s no doubt the Apple HomePod speaker price in India would be at the premium end. That’s because Apple is promising a high-quality wireless speaker with a lot of features. It’s something that the market doesn’t really offer, not with the kind of functionality Apple will be able to bake inside the HomePod speakers

Will the Apple HomePod speaker become a household hit in India?

That’s still too early to ask. The bigger question right now is if Apple would be able to break into the wireless speaker market in India like it did with the iPhone for smartphones. Apple’s iPhone got everyone ready to shell out a month or two’s worth of their monthly salaries to spend on a smartphone. The HomePod speaker may not be that expensive in India, ideally half the price of an iPhone’s launch price. But it’s still too much of an ask for a highly price sensitive market like India, especially for a speaker.

Even the wireless speaker market is very nascent here in India. Amazon’s Echo speakers still haven’t launched yet, Sonos wireless speakers are hard to find and mostly priced atrociously high, and Bose is currently the market leader in the premium segment. There’s still some time for the HomePod to launch in India, and things could be much different by then.

How Much Will Apple HomePod Speaker Cost In India?

The Apple HomePod price tag in India is what will define the product’s success. Even though launch-prices mean almost nothing now, thanks to the booming e-commerce industry fighting over discounts in India, the initial price does send a signal across. Make no mistake Apple wants HomePod to be at the premium segment of the market, just like any other Apple product.

Apple will find more buyers for the HomePod speaker in India when they’re up for a discount. By March next year, we should start seeing initial discounts on the HomePod wireless speaker in India.

If one had to take a guess, the Apple HomePod speaker should launch at the price point of Rs.30,000. Don’t be surprised if it goes up to Rs.35,000. Since there are no particular variants at this point, the speaker should have a clear pricing.
