Snapchat isn’t just for the kids anymore. Especially after Instagram decided to copy almost all of its features, Snapchat is even more relevant now. Snapchat has rolled out several cool features recently, owing to the tough competition with Instagram. You can expect both Instagram and Snapchat to fight it out amongst themselves, and bring out new features to the apps regularly.
Before you proceed, make sure you update the Snapchat app on your Android or iOS smartphone. Some of the below features are gradually rolling out globally.
Here’s how you can use Snapchat’s latest features to create cool snaps:
How to add a link to your snaps on Snapchat?
Snapchat now lets you add links to your snaps. This feature was previously limited to paid advertisers only. Even Instagram only allows verified accounts and advertisers to add links to their stories. But on Snapchat anyone with an updated app can add a link to their snaps.
To add a link to your snap, click a photo or a video first. Once you’ve done that tap on the paperclip icon on the right side. Tapping on the icon will open a URL field on the top. Enter the link you’d like to add to your snap, or simply copy and paste it from anywhere. When you enter the URL it will open up the web page on Snapchat, simply tap on the Attach to Snap button and the link will be added to your snap.
To view links your followers and friends can simply swipe up on the snap.
Snapchat will also automatically pick up a link you may have on your clipboard. Of course, you’ll need to authorize Snapchat once to set it up.
So far when we tried out the feature, Snapchat only lets you place the same link once in your stories. However, you can still add different links to other snaps.
How to add a funky background to your snaps?
You can now add cool backgrounds to your Snapchat stories. It’s super easy to use, and so much fun. Here’s how you can do it yourself:
First, take a photo that you want on your snap. Now tap on the scissors icon on the right side. Select the background icon at the bottom of the menu on the right side. You’ll see multiple background filters appear, select the one that you would like to add to your snap. Now using your finger simply outline the object or a person that you would like to see pop up in front of the background.
That’s it! You can be creative and mix a couple of filters, add stickers and make the effects appear even more amazing. For now, there are a bunch of background filters available but we’re pretty sure Snapchat will keep updating them almost daily.
Use a voice filter to create a cool sound effect on Snapchat
Another new feature to ship with the latest update is the ability to add voice filters on Snapchat. Now there was a version of this previously available where you had to apply a particular filter, and it added a voice effect too. Now you don’t need any visual filter, the voice filter works independently.
Here’s how you can add a voice filter to your snaps on Snapchat:
Simply record a video for a snap. Now tap on the volume icon on the left bottom corner of the screen, you’ll see four different voice filters – Alien, cat, robot, and a bear. Tap on any of these voice filter icons to transform your voice. It’s fun, although it’s nothing new. Just that now you can have a voice filter without using a visual filter on Snapchat.
Go on a virtual vacation with Snapchat
Snapchat introduced the maps functionality in the last build. It may sound like a privacy concern for many and therefore it is completely opt-in. You can use the maps feature on Snapchat to go on a mini vacation. It’s fun, fast, and of course completely free.
To view snaps people are posting across the globe, simply pinch in from the camera screen on Snapchat. You’ll be able to view your friends nearby, along with blue spots across the map indicating Snapchat activity. Tap on the blue spots to view snaps from those locations. You can zoom out to view the entire world map. Isn’t that fun?
Post old photos as snaps on Snapchat
The essence of Snapchat is all about real-time sharing. This is why you only see content posted for as far as 24 hours ago. But there are times when you would like to share a photo you took when you were out, but couldn’t share it on Snapchat for some reason.
Here’s a simple way you can post a photo from your photo gallery to Snapchat. Simply open the photo on your smartphone and zoom it in such a way that it covers the entire phone display. Now take a screenshot of the photo. Move the screenshot file to an album named Snapchat.
Now open Snapchat and go to settings. Go to Memories and select import. Now pick the screenshot and open the camera view on Snapchat. Wipe up and navigate to memories. You’ll see the screenshot of the photo you took in the previous steps. Now you can edit and post this photo as a snap on Snapchat.
