At some point in our lives, we’ve all come across a broken Lightning cable. Replacing a broken Lightning cable with a brand new cable can be a daunting task. There are hundreds of Lightning cables available online and that makes it a difficult task to pick the right one.
Today we will review some of the best Lightning cables available in India. We will tell you which is the best Lightning cable for your iOS device, something that scores high on all fronts: functionality, data transfer speeds, and moreover sturdiness.
How We Tested Lightning Cables
Our task wasn’t simple. To make sure we get it right we spent a lot of time trying different Lightning cables over a period of time. We also tried these cables on different iOS devices. We wanted to make sure there were no compatibility issues and user experience was consistent across all devices. I know it’s just a cable, but if you’re an iOS device user (and if you use multiple iOS devices) you get the idea.
If you try searching for a Lightning cable at any online marketplace in India, you’ll end up with multiple results. Some of these cables are MFi certified, some are not, some of these cables are atrociously priced while some seem too cheap to be real. Our job is to tell you which cables are right for now and which ones you really need to avoid.
We played around with 8 different Lightning cables that are easily available in India. We spent about five to six weeks trying out these Lightning cables. We made sure we put them through enough daily wear-and-tear situations. Of course, we didn’t intentionally put additional pressure on them to break or tear them apart (we’re humans too). We used the cars to charge iOS devices on workstations, on the go using mobile power banks, in cars, and just about anywhere you would need to charge your device or transfer data.
AmazonBasics Nylon Braided Lightning Cable
From all our tests, we can safely conclude that the AmazonBasics Nylon Braided Lightning cable offers the best value for your money. The cable is MFi certified which means it is completely compatible with all your iOS devices. It has everything one expects from a great Lightning cable. It doesn’t break easily and compared to the other cables we tested this one felt much better in comparison.
The AmazonBasics Nylon Braided Lightning Cable is priced at around Rs.899 to Rs.999. The price will vary from time to time. On a sale, you should be able to get further discount on the marked price. AmazonBasics offers a 1-year limited warranty and considering it is Amazon we’re talking about, claiming warranty shouldn’t be an issue with the ‘world’s most consumer centric company’.
In terms of data transfer speeds, we didn’t notice any issues with the AmazonBasics Nylon Braided Lightning cable. In fact, out of all the cables we tried (long or short), data transfer speeds were never an issue. We honestly feel it shouldn’t even be an issue while picking up a Lightning cable anymore.
Boat Indestructible Lightning Cable
Boat (or boAt) was one of the first few companies to bring a sturdy Lightning cable to India. Initially, the cable was priced pretty high for obvious reasons but now you can grab one for as low as Rs.899. The Boat Indestructible Lightning cable comes in an aluminum casing which makes it pretty strong. You’ll really need to work hard to break this one apart.
Sometimes while using the cable it feels too dangerous, even though it is literally harmless. The company offers a two-year warranty on all its cables.
We love the metal braided Lightning cable from Boat as much as the AmazonBasics nylon braided cable, but we prefer the latter because it’s easier to travel with and you don’t really need metal braided cable for day-to-day usage. Having said that we feel if you use your Lightning cable in conditions that demand a strong casing, probably in a car or elsewhere, you may want to check out the Boat Indestructible Lightning cable.
It comes in various colors too in case that’s your thing.
Other Lightning Cables That Are Also Good
Tukzer Lightning Cable
Another nylon braided cable that you could consider is the Tukzer Nylon Braided Lightning cable. The cool thing about this cable is that it comes with a LED indicator on the Lightning port end. The cable is MFi certified which means you can stop worrying about compatibility issues. The LED indicators light up once you connect your iPhone or iPad to the charger.
The Tukzer Nylon Braided Lightning cable is available at a price point of Rs.949. Currently, TataCliq has the best deal on the cable.
Anker Lightning Cable Review
Anker’s mobile accessories are pretty solid. They also sell a nylon braided Lightning cable in India. It costs around Rs.949 for the 1-meter variant. The cable is MFi certified and is completely tangle-free thanks to the nylon casing. The golden colored variant of the cable is available for less compared to the black and white variants.
Anker offers a warranty that lasts 1.5-years but we doubt you’d ever need it.
Other Regular Lightning Cables We Liked
Sometimes we care a little too much about how our cables look. Sometimes we do not need the added braided protection. In case you fall in any of these categories, we also tested a bunch of regular Lightning cables too. The ones that are cheaper than the original Apple Lightning cable but still slightly better built.
AmazonBasics Lightning Cable
Amazon also sells a bunch of regular Lightning cables too. These come in different length sizes too. We tried the 10cm and 1.8meter variants. Performance wise there’s nothing to talk about, it’s all pretty consistent.
You can go for the ultra short one (10cm) in case you want one to be used with a power bank. Otherwise, go for the regular 1.8meter cable. The former costs around Rs.699 while the latter is priced at Rs.999. Again, the prices will fluctuate on a day to day basis. You’re likely to get a better deal during a sale.
Lightning Cables You Must Avoid Buying
We all like to save a little money, especially when it comes to mobile phone accessories. But we think this piece would be incomplete if we didn’t warn you. The market is flooded with an insane number of fake Lightning cables.
These so called Lightning cables attract prospective customers by their price tags. They would promise that you’ll get all the features you need at a very small percentage of the price. You end up buying the Lightning cable only to realize it just won’t work. You may even get a refund depending on how and where you bought the cable but it still causes a lot of pain.
We suggest you avoid any such Lightning cable. It’ll do you more harm than good.
Here’s how you can easily spot such a Lightning cable:
Low prices: These fake Lightning cables come with ultra low prices. Like insanely low to attract the most gullible audience. Don’t fall for it.
False claims: These cables come with product listings that carry photos of the original Apple Lightning cable and also claim that the cable is Apple certified.
Dubious sellers: Always buy from a trusted online marketplace or original mobile accessory manufacturer websites. Don’t trust sellers with no certifications or ratings on an online marketplace. Certainly, don’t buy from a website that appears strange or new and hasn’t received any reviews.
