AirPods

Samsung is building its own version of AirPods, the popular wireless headphones built by Apple. The news isn’t even surprising anymore. Samsung is expected to announce its AirPods competitor next month during the launch of Galaxy Note 8.

Earlier, Samsung was expected to announce its wireless speakers with the launch of its flagship smartphone Galaxy S8. Apparently, Samsung’s wireless headphones got delayed for one big reason: Bixby.

Samsung’s smart voice based assistant, Bixby, just wasn’t ready. But now that it is finally out, it isn’t really getting the right kind of reviews from users and the tech press. Samsung’s wireless headphones will integrate Bixby for voice based commands, eliminating the need for using the handset while on the move.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Launch Event Invitation

The electronics giant was also expected to ship a wireless speaker, like Apple’s HomePod, later this year but the plans have been reportedly shelved for now. Samsung and Apple have already been a part of a long legal battle over copying of Apple’s iPhone.

Samsung already sells wireless headphones called Gear IconX. They’re not ideally a competitor to Apple’s AirPods because they lack the smart assistant functionality, and are primarily a portable music player cum headphones product.

The company may bundle its AirPods like headphones with the Galaxy Note 8. It may also launch a promotional offer that may offer a discount for a limited time for current Galaxy S8 owners. Samsung device owners might appreciate an AirPod like product, even if it doesn’t match it entirely in terms of quality.

The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to launch on August 23 this year. Samsung will host its trademark Unpacked event across the world to announce the new Note device. Several leaks have already shown us how the device might end up looking. Samsung is under pressure to sell more Note devices this year, owing to the disastrous launch of the Note 7 smartphone last year.
