HMD Global has launched the much-anticipated smartphone from Nokia, the Nokia 8 which is also the first Android flagship phone from the company ever since the company made a comeback into the smartphone industry at the beginning of this year by launching the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Talking about the Nokia 8, the smartphone was leaked a number of times and the design, as well as the specifications of the smartphone, were already out in the public. The Nokia 8 smartphone comes with a Dual Camera setup which is made in partnership with Carl Zeiss, a camera lens manufacturing company.
The major highlights of the Nokia 8 smartphone are its 13MP+13MP Zeiss cameras on the rear as well as a 13MP front camera for selfies. The Nokia 8 also supports ‘Bothie’ functionality which means that the front camera and the rear camera of the smartphone can be turned on simultaneously.
The Nokia 8 is made out of 6000-series Aluminium and the smartphone feels premium in terms of its looks. The Nokia is available in the Glossy and Matte finish where the Matte finish contains Tempered Blue and Steel color whereas the Glossy finish comprises of Polished copper and Polished Blue colors. The Glossy Finish on the Nokia 8 is similar to the one found on the recently-launched flagship smartphone from HTC, the HTC U11.
In terms of the internals of the Nokia 8, the smartphone features a 5.3-inch LCD display which comes with a resolution of 2560x1440p. The display of the smartphone is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and the smartphone has a USB Type C port for charging. The smartphone also retains the 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Nokia 8 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be expandable up to 256GB. The smartphone will come with either single-SIM or hybrid dual-SIM options depending on the markets which they are made available in.
In terms of the battery capacity, the smartphone comes equipped with a 3090mAh battery to power the device. The camera setup on the Nokia 8 which is a 13MP+13MP Dual Camera and a 13MP front camera, supports 4K recording. The rear camera setup houses a dual-tone LED flash and the rear cameras support laser autofocus.
Talking about the features that have been highlighted by HMD Global during the launch of the smartphone, the company has mentioned that the rear cameras on the Nokia 8 combine the photos from the monochrome sensor and the color sensor into a single image using the “Image Fusion Technology”. The cameras on the smartphone support live streaming to Facebook or YouTube from both the rear and front cameras which the company calls ‘Bothie’.
The Nokia 8 also features ‘Ozo audio’ which is a technique to record 360-degree surround sound from the three microphones placed on the smartphone. The 360-degree surround sound is attached to 4K recording to create virtual reality content. The smartphone is currently launched in Europe at a starting price of €599 and the smartphone is expected to come to India in early-October at a price of Rs. 45,000.
