Which Smartphones Are Getting Android Oreo This Year?

Google released the next version of Android, Android 8.0 Oreo on August 21. The OTA updates for Android Oreo are already out for Pixel and Nexus devices. The Android 8.0 Oreo update is expected to come to OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3/3T, HTC U11, HTC U Ultra and Sony Xperia smartphones by the end of 2017.

Google released the latest version of Android as well as its name at an event held in San Francisco on the eve of full solar eclipse which occurred in the United States on August 21. At the event, Google revealed that the name of next version of Android will be Android 8.0 Oreo.

As far as the update to the Android 8.0 Oreo is concerned, Google has already released the OTA updates to the Google Pixel devices released last year as well as some of the Nexus devices released in 2015 like the Nexus 6p and Nexus 5x among others. Now, Google also revealed that the other manufacturers will also get the Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of this year.

In terms of the Android 8.0 Oreo update, the latest version of Android comes with features like Autofill for apps, Picture-in-Picture mode, Updated Emojis, Enhanced security and Power management. We have compiled a list of devices which have been released recently and is expected to get the Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of this year.

OnePlus 5 & OnePlus 3/3T

OnePlus revealed the latest flagship device from the company, the OnePlus 5 earlier this year. The OnePlus 5 was launched with Dual Rear camera setup and latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. The smartphone was launched in the month of June this year with OxygenOS 4.5 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. OnePlus has revealed that the OnePlus 5 will get the Android 8.0 Oreo.

OnePlus 3 was the flagship smartphone from the company last year powered with Snapdragon 820 processor and a 13MP single rear camera. Later last year, OnePlus released an upgraded version of OnePlus 3 named as OnePlus 3T with Snapdragon 821 processor and an upgraded front camera. Talking about the Android Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T, the company has announced that the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will get Android 8.0 Oreo update later this year and this update will be the last official update to come to the device.

HTC U11 & HTC U Ultra

HTC U11 is the latest flagship smartphone which was released by HTC earlier this year. The HTC U11 came with the latest Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB RAM, and 128GB internal storage. In terms of the update to Android 8.0 Oreo, HTC is expected to update its flagship smartphone of 2017 by the end of this year.

HTC U Ultra was revealed by HTC in the first quarter of this year as the company’s flagship phablet smartphone. In terms of the specifications, the U Ultra from HTC was launched with Snapdragon 821 processor and the smartphone came with a secondary ticker display same as LG V10 and LG V20. The update to Android 8.0 Oreo for HTC U Ultra, same as HTC U11 is also expected by the end of this year.

Nokia 3/5/6/8

Nokia has released a list of the smartphone in 2017 after making its comeback earlier this year. The Nokia smartphones released this year are the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8 out of which the Nokia 8 is the flagship smartphone from the company this year. All the Nokia smartphones have already been confirmed to get the Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of this year.

Moto G5/G5 Plus

Motorola has released the 5th generation of its Moto G series of smartphones earlier this year. In terms of the Android Oreo update, the Moto G5 series is expected to get the update this year and the company is expected to release the update to Moto G4 Plus early next year.

Other smartphones that are expected to get the Android Oreo update include Sony Xperia lineup of smartphones including the Sony Xperia XZ, XZ Premium released by the company earlier this year.

Other smartphones not included in the list may get the update to Android Oreo update early next year. These smartphones include the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, LG G6 and LG V30.
